VW Will Let You Design Your Own ID. Buzz Wrap

If there’s ever been a car that took naturally to custom paint jobs, it’s the classic Volkswagen Bus. The famous VW Type 2 “love bus” has been the canvas for millions of artists across decades. It’s hard to picture one without peace signs, butterflies, and rainbows.

VW wouldn’t bring out a spiritual successor and expect it to stay all one color.

So, the company will get in on the fun from the start. Volkswagen has launched a custom graphics program that lets you design your own 2025 VW ID. Buzz. Technicians will apply your design as a vinyl wrap before you pick up the car.

Volkswagen hasn’t revealed pricing. A full wrap for a vehicle as large as the ID. Buzz would ordinarily cost several thousand dollars, though we have no idea whether VW won some volume discount.

About the ID. Buzz

The ID. Buzz is the all-electric second coming of the classic VW Bus. It arrives in dealerships later this year, though Volkswagen still hasn’t named a price. It wears the classic Bus look but rides on an all-electric platform with seating for seven and a range of about 275 miles.

You can order it in one solid color or a two-tone paint job from the factory. However, if butterflies, the Kanagawa wave, or your small business logo are more your style, you can also order that.

“The centerpiece of the program is the Wrapmate 3D configurator,” VW explains, “which enables customers to design and visualize custom wraps and decals in real-time directly on the Wrapmate website.”

Dealers won’t do the application work themselves (a skill most dealer technicians haven’t needed to master), but dealerships can arrange to have the wrap applied by “Wrapmate’s network of more than 2,000 certified Wrapmate Pro installers.”

The company will also periodically offer its own designs. The first of the bunch will be a “Love the Earth” design from artist Bob Hieronimus. It features the phrase “Love the Earth” in 25 languages.
