Recall Alert: Lucid Air – Kelley Blue Book

What a time to find out your windshield defroster doesn’t work. Electric vehicle builder Lucid recalled about 2,000 examples of its Lucid Air sedan from model years 2022 and 2023 because their defrosters may not work as advertised, just as a record deep freeze hits much of the U.S.

The company tells federal safety officials that a batch of high-voltage coolant heaters (HVCH) built by a supplier may be faulty. “Loss of adequate windshield defrost capability could lead to restricted driver field of vision and an increased risk of a crash,” the company explains.

Lucid has already sent a software update to cars, which will help identify the problem. “The software update will identify any HVCH failure when it occurs, and in the event of a failure, provide a warning on the glass cockpit panel to owners about the lack of defrost capability,” Lucid says.

The warning will advise owners to contact Lucid for a free HVCH replacement.
