Recall Alert: Ford Bronco Sport, Maverick

Ford has issued a recall for 115 copies of its 2023 Bronco Sport small SUV and 2023 Maverick compact pickup because they may have defective tires.

Ford told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a supplier had provided the company with some tires built with “a hybrid cap ply made of aramid and nylon instead of an all-nylon composition.” That would give those tires up to 30% more stiffness than expected.

“Given the random manner in which these tires were fitted to vehicles during manufacturing, there is a possibility for various combinations of these tires to be
present on a single vehicle – ranging from all four tires being affected to just one,” Ford says. With tires of different compositions, a vehicle might not handle predictably, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford believes only seven of the tires made it onto the vehicles before the company caught the problem, but it needs to inspect every car built in a 6-day period to find them all.

Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting the tires and replacing any that are out of spec.

Recall repairs are always free. Manufacturers attempt to contact every owner, but they don’t always get to reach them all. Find out if your car has ever been recalled at our recall center.
