BMW Unveils 2025 X5 Silver Anniversary Edition

In late 1999, a company with a reputation built on great sport sedans built its first sport utility vehicle. Twenty-five years later, most BMWs sold in America are SUVs. To mark the occasion, BMW has produced a celebratory version of its oldest SUV model.

The 2025 BMW X5 Silver Anniversary Edition is – we’ll let you guess the color.

BMW calls it “Lime Rock Grey Metallic.” But this is the company that insists on calling its SUVs Sports Activity Vehicles. Silver is still silver.

Incidentally, BMW knows 2025 minus 1999 is 26. That first model wore a 2000 model year badge.

Pricing for the birthday model will start at $81,075, including a $1,175 destination and handling charge.

A Combination of Features Not Available Before

Based on the 2025 xDrive 40i, the Silver Anniversary Edition uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine to make 375 horsepower. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.

To distinguish it from other xDrive 40i models, this anniversary edition gets a mix of equipment from several packages not normally offered together. Extended Shadowline Trim, “usually reserved for X5s equipped with the M Sport and M Sport Professional packages,” darkens most of the brightwork. But the Shadowline setup normally comes with unique front and rear bumpers and rocker panels. Here, it comes mixed with “aluminum-accented pieces from the Sport Design to highlight its off-road intentions.”

And it does have off-road intentions. BMW’s xOffroad Package is standard. “The package is not offered on any other current BMW X model and augments the X5 Silver Anniversary Edition’s off-road capability by adjusting the vehicle’s settings depending on the terrain,” BMW says.

It includes air suspension, a mechanical rear differential lock, and underbody protection plates. Drivers can switch between “xSnow, xSand, xGravel, and xRocks” modes.

Inside, it gets a Harman-Kardon Surround Sound system, heated front seats, and the Parking Assistance package.

The BMW Silver Anniversary Edition X5 will be “limited to about 1,000 units,” the company says. Production will begin in August at BMW’s factory in South Carolina.
