2025 Mazda CX-70 Prices Start at $41,820

The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is a unique vehicle but one likely to be just right for certain buyers.

Many manufacturers make both a 2-row and a 3-row midsize SUV. But the two are typically easy to tell apart – like Honda’s Passport and Pilot.

Last year, Mazda introduced an all-new flagship 3-row SUV, the CX-90. In a crowd of look-alike, drive-alike family haulers, it stood out. A rare turbocharged inline-6-cylinder engine and rear-biased all-wheel drive (AWD) made it drive almost like a luxury car. Intriguing details like upholstery stitched with traditional bookbinding techniques lent it a hint of class unusual in the mainstream segment.

Then, last month, Mazda introduced it again. Well, not exactly. They brought out a 2-row SUV for 2025, the CX-70. But it shared almost all of its parts with the CX-90. Parked side-by-side, the two would be hard to tell apart. The dimensions are ever-so-slightly different. But the difference is subtle enough to be hard to detect.

The available powertrains are the same, too.

Now, even the prices are similar. Mazda released pricing for the 2-row 2025 CX-70 this week. The list matches the price of the 3-row 2024 CX-90 to the penny when comparing apples-to-apples trims (the 2024 CX-90 starts at $39,220 with destination but the lineup begins at a lower base trim than the CX-70).

That may not be true next year. By the time Mazda releases the 2025 version of the 3-row CX-90, inflation may mean the third row of seats costs a bit more. But, for now, they’re fraternal twins you could mistake for identical, even on the window sticker.

The CX-70 is available with a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-6-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid setup, making 280 horsepower.

The Turbo S model gets a more powerful version of the same engine, producing up to 340 horsepower.

A plug-in hybrid version combines a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine with a hybrid system, good for a combined 323 horsepower. It can travel up to 26 miles on electric power alone before using its gasoline engine.

Sales of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 begin this spring.
