2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Starts Under $30,000

When Honda last redesigned its popular Civic sedan and hatchback for the 2022 model year, the company surprised observers by leaving hybrid options out of the lineup. That changed this spring when Honda announced a pair of Civic Hybrid trims for 2025.

Now, the company has confirmed pricing and MPG details for the gas-electric models.

The entire Civic lineup gets a mild update for 2025, with new interior technology and a larger grille up front.

Gas-powered models get the same 158-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. Only the sportier Civic Si and track-oriented Type R get the option of a 6-speed manual transmission. All other models stick with a continuously variable unit.

Hybrid Models Out-Power Gas Versions

Hybrid Civics get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine mated to a pair of electric motors. The combination is good for 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. Honda calls it “the most powerful Civic ever not named Type R.”

But it’s not all about power. The new gas-electric setup is available in two trim levels – Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. Both are good for 50 mpg in the city and 47 mpg in highway driving, with a combined rating of 49 mpg.

Honda says “the ride and handling dynamics of Civic hybrid have been optimized with unique spring and damper tuning, and a specially-developed tire.” Standard noise reduction tech includes active noise control, plus wheel resonators in the top-of-the-line Sport Touring Hybrid.

Honda expects hybrids to make up about 40% of Civic sales, as Americans have embraced hybrids as a bridge step toward eventual electrification.

Honda has never said whether it plans to develop an electric Civic. But the company showed off a very Civic-like electric vehicle (EV) at last year’s  Japan Mobility Show (formerly the Tokyo Motor Show), wearing the reborn classic name Honda Prelude. It was officially just a concept car.
